We Can Still Get Take Out!

Hello Foodies!

It’s April and there’s good news and bad news…

The bad news is what you hear on TV or read on the internet – we won’t get into that here. You’ve probably heard enough.

What we can focus on is the good – no, GREAT NEWS, that restaurants are considered essential! Many of our favorite eating places in Harrisburg are still open and able to serve take out. YES!! (Insert fist pump and happy dance emojis here!) You can still devour your favorite dishes – just from the comfort of your own home.  It does mean you’re using your own dishes, but it may be worth it to eat something deliciously familiar that can take you back to a happier, satisfied time BC (Before Coronavirus).

According to these articles from Forbes, Good Housekeeping and USA Today, getting take out food is totally SAFE to do during the pandemic.  The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, cannot live in high temperatures (like when food is cooked) nor can it live if ingested.  Therefore, the likelihood of getting COVID-19 from eating food is low. The risk comes in the interactions with other people (delivery person, cashier, etc.) not from the food itself.

To minimize contact with other people, a lot of restaurants are doing curbside delivery as well as no contact at home delivery.  Contact during curbside delivery can be minimized if you pay by credit card ahead of time and have the delivery person put the food in your trunk or back seat (just like doing a Target drive thru pick up!)  You can get more information from this article in The Burg.

It may be a while before we can sit down at our favorite restaurant for a Friday date night or enjoy a leisurely coffee at our favorite breakfast place. Until then, we can capture part of that delicious magic by getting take out from our favorites.

Here are few of our vendors from the Broad Street Market (stone building) that are currently open for curbside pick up on Thursday, Friday and Saturday:

  • Raising the Bar Bakery – order by email: rtbinhbg@gmail.com
  • Phyllo – order via Square (Phyllohbg.square.site) or call: 347-518-6953
  • Taqueria El Compadre – call: 201-921-1055 or 201-966-4380
  • Pikowski Pierogi Place – order through Facebook (@pikowskispierogi) or by email: pikowskispierogi@gmail.com
